It is popular in North India and is made with whole wheat grits or broken wheat. It can be made either as a sweet dalia kheer or as savoury daliya.
Daliya is a one-pot meal loaded with fiber, high in nutrition and low in calories. A perfect choice for all those who are looking for a healthy wholesome breakfast or dessert.
- 1 ½ cup broken wheat/dalia
- 4 ½ cup water
- 1 chopped onion
- ¼ cup green peas
- 1 large chopped carrot
- 1 potato peeled and cut in small piece
- 1-2 green chillies (as per taste)
- 5-7 curry leaves
- ½ tablespoon mustard
- ½ tablespoon cumin
- Pinch of hing
- Salt to taste
- 3 tablespoon oil
Directions
- Roast Broken Wheat/Daliya till it gets light brown. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, hing, cumin and curry leaves.
- After the spices splutter, add onions, carrots, peas, potatoes and fry for 3-4 mins. Add warm water and salt and bring the water to a rapid boil. Add broken wheat slowly, mix it well and close the pan lid.
- Cook till the vegetables are fully cooked on low fame. Once cooked serve with your favourite sides chutney or pickle or sambar.
