Daliya

It is popular in North India and is made with whole wheat grits or broken wheat. It can be made either as a sweet dalia kheer or as savoury daliya.

Daliya is a one-pot meal loaded with fiber, high in nutrition and low in calories. A perfect choice for all those who are looking for a healthy wholesome breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cup broken wheat/dalia
  • 4 ½ cup water
  • 1 chopped onion
  • ¼ cup green peas
  • 1 large chopped carrot
  • 1 potato peeled and cut in small piece
  • 1-2 green chillies (as per taste)
  • 5-7 curry leaves
  • ½ tablespoon mustard
  • ½ tablespoon cumin
  • Pinch of hing
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoon oil

Directions

  1. Roast Broken Wheat/Daliya till it gets light brown. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, hing, cumin and curry leaves.
  2. After the spices splutter, add onions, carrots, peas, potatoes and fry for 3-4 mins. Add warm water and salt and bring the water to a rapid boil. Add broken wheat slowly, mix it well and close the pan lid.
  3. Cook till the vegetables are fully cooked on low fame. Once cooked serve with your favourite sides chutney or pickle or sambar.
